Salt is not the sexiest topic in the world unless you are talking about HimalaSalt from Sustainable Sourcing. HimalaSalt is hand harvested from the Himalayan Mountains and considered to be the most pure form of whole salt on the planet. It has never been exposed to impurities, and has been protected deep within the Himalayans for millions and millions of years. HimalaSalt was formed from the primordial ocean during a time of great tectonic pressure. This is important today, as even the highest quality sea salts come from current ocean waters, which can contain heavy metals and harmful pollutants.
HimalaSalt gets its lovely pink color is from a high content of essential minerals (high in magnesium, calcium, and iron and contains more than 80 essential trace minerals). It is never heat treated. It is stone ground, all natural, unrefined, and additive free. Its essential minerals replenish vital electrolytes. It alkalizes the body, allowing vital nutrients to be absorbed more efficiently, while aiding the body in releasing acidic waste. Sustainable Sourcing has fine grain and coarse grain salt, Himalayan crystal salt chunks, cubes, bricks, cooking slabs, plates and bowls. Don’t miss the video below featuring their cooking slab.
Melissa Kushi is the founder and president of Sustainable Sourcing. As a social entrepreneur she traveled the world – creating bamboo micro-industries in Africa, replacing coca crops in the jungles of Peru, and introducing Japanese Hokkaido heirloom soybeans to organic farmers in the US. She lived in Japan where she learned traditional Japanese cooking, and came to fully understand the value and importance of high quality salt for health and longevity. She also completed her Masters in Chinese Metaphysics. Always passionate about sharing her childhood experiences of growing up on an organic farm in the south, Melissa taught organic gardening at a Rudolf Steiner school, where her children attended. Her experience and integrity provide the foundation for Sustainable Sourcing, a company that puts health, well-being, and the environment first – insisting on ethical sourcing, artisan harvesting and production methods, natural packaging, and a carbon-neutral, zero-landfill footprint. The salt offered in the Yuzen box is not just salt but an experience through and through.

We recently tried this fast and delicious recipe: Fresh Mozzarella with HimalaSalt and 4 Pepper Blend
• Fresh og Basil
• Extra Virgin Olive Oil
• OG Garlic HimalaSalt (or fresh, finely minced garlic)
• Loaf of french bread
• Fresh tomatoes, sliced
Slice bread and rub with olive oil and garlic, or sprinkle Organic Garlic HimalaSalt, and grill under broiler, you can also grill stovetop in a cast iron skillet so you can get the grill marks/toasted edges just right.
While the crostini is making, grind several tablespoons of the HimalaSalt 4 Pepper Blend on a plate, pull or cut mozzarella into pieces to fit crostini, then roll in the ground pepper blend.
Place first, the tomatoes, then the peppered cheese on top of crostini, garnish with fresh basil, either whole, or finely minced and sprinkled.
Time: about 12 minutes.
