Lots of moms happily work on creative, crafty projects with their kids during their free time. But for Deanna and Aubrey, the mother/daughter team behind Black Dahlia Lacquer, their passion became their mission.
The women used to make their own nail polish on weekends, thinking that it would be a fun way for them to experiment with a wider variety of colors and finishes without breaking the bank. (Deanna admits to owning about 2,000 bottles of nail polish!) Instead of helping to curb their passion for polish, though, making their own actually elevated their interest. So, when Deanna was ready for a career change, she decided to dive into the beauty business, with Aubrey’s help.
Black Dahlia—named after Deanna’s favorite flower—is a fairly new brand, but it’s already extremely popular with women seeking handcrafted, small-batch, cruelty-free, vegan polish that’s better for both humans and the planet. It’s also “5-Free,” which means it contains no DBP, toluene, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, or camphor.
Black Dahlia’s color range has gotten a lot of attention in the beauty world for being bright and unique, and several different finishes are available, including “Flakies,” “Shimmer,” “Micro Glitter,” and “Chunky Glitter.”
We think you’ll love the “Red Spike Cactus” polish that came in the winter Yuzen box. Although it’s from Black Dahlia’s “Lights and Brights” summer collection, it’s a festive shade that works great for any event during the holiday season. The micro glitter, bronze flakies, and glass flecks in the polish shimmer and shift from gold to blue-green as they catch the light.
