Good Spread doesn’t just have good organic peanut butter, it also has a good mission: to help cure Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) around the world.
SAM is the leading cause of death for nearly 2.6 million children under 5 every year, taking the lives of more children than AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria combined. Children who do survive SAM suffer from stunted growth, weak immune systems, and underdeveloped brains.
Good Spread is actively responding to this urgent need. With every purchase of a jar of Good Spread, the company sends a treatment of MANA Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food to a malnourished child. MANA is a fortified, peanut-butter based medicine containing just three simple ingredients—milk, peanut butter, and vitamins. And studies show that the effects are lifesaving; in less than six weeks, 96 percent of children are completely cured.
Your new jar of peanut butter even features a unique tracking code, so you can see exactly where the MANA packet you personally donated is headed. Good Spread partners with organizations like World Vision to guarantee that your purchase has animpact with the children who need it most. You can also subscribe via theirwebsite (www.helpgoodspread.com) in order to receive updates and stories from the field.
While you’re on the company’s website, also check out all the delicious organic flavors they offer, like Honey Banana and Chocolate Pretzel. They’ve also got lots of delicious recipes for enjoying your new peanut butter (besides on a PB&J), like this one that we simply can’t get enough of:
Good Spread Thai Sauce
Makes 8 ounces
- 1/4 cup of honey
- 1/4 cup of Good Spread Natural Peanut Butter & Honey
- 3 tablespoons of soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons of rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil
- 1 tablespoon of sesame oil
- 2 teaspoons of minced fresh garlic
- 1 tablespoon of minced ginger root
- 1 teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes
Just mix it all in a bowl! (Really, it’s that simple!) Delicious with stir fry, simply over noodles, or as a salad dressing (thin with a bit more oil to use as dressing, if desired).
