Aluminum’s not so bad, is it? It’s a versatile, durable, malleable, nonmagnetic metal that we use to make little things like cans to drink out of and much bigger things like airplane parts.
But just because we appreciate it doesn’t mean we necessarily want to put it IN our bodies, such as when we use conventional antiperspirants. The jury is still out on whether aluminum is toxic to humans; while there are studies showing that it could possibly affect our chances of getting cancer or Alzheimer’s, there are others showing that it isn’t a factor. Even the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health isn’t certain—they caution that several scientists have suggested a possible connection between aluminum and breast cancer, but they also say that “no scientific evidence links the use of these products to the development of breast cancer.”
Unfortunately, the aluminum in antiperspirant was put there for a pretty good reason; it works to temporarily block your sweat ducts so you don’t perspire, and when you don’t perspire, you don’t smell. So, if you don’t want aluminum in your body but you REALLY don’t want to get all stinky, what should you do?
The folks at Nubian Heritage know exactly what you should do: be on the safe side and use a deodorant—not antiperspirant—with all-natural ingredients. The 24 Hour All Natural Deodorant in your summer Yuzen box contains all-natural ingredientswith soothing and deodorizing properties, like cornstarch, shea butter, apricot kernel oil, and aloe. Your body might naturally still perspire, but at least you’ll smell fresh when it does!
